Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) Sunday warned China’s leaders against providing military aid to Russia during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”
“If you jump on the Putin train now, you’re dumber than dirt,” Graham admonished Chinese leaders. “It would be like buying a ticket on the Titanic after you saw the movie. Don’t do this.”
The South Carolina Republican spoke with “This Week” anchor Martha Raddatz during an exclusive interview from the Munich Security Conference.
“The most catastrophic thing that could happen to the U.S.-China relationship, in my opinion, is for China to give lethal weapons to Putin in his crime against humanity,” Graham added.
“That would change everything forever.”
Graham’s remarks followed Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s statement that he believes China is on the verge of supplying lethal weapons to Russia. He said the world should come down hard on China if they do supply weapons to help President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
The senator noted that Vice President Kamala Harris said at the Munich Security Conference that Russia has committed crimes against humanity. He segued by noting any nation that helps perpetuate crimes against humanity should pay a heavy price.
“So, that’s why we should designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism,” Graham explained, “because if you do that under U.S. law, and China provides lethal weapons, they will get sanctioned.”
Graham advocated escalating aid to Ukrainian forces by training them to fly F-16 jets and supplying them with planes to gain control of their country’s airspace.
The senator also declared that an international tribune should be created to try President Putin for war crimes.
