Greg Abbott Doesn’t Hold Back After Adams Calls Him ‘Madman’

New York City Mayor Eric Adams once embraced the idea that NYC is a sanctuary city and undocumented immigrants should be welcomed across the southern border. He now is singing a different tune.

Last week, Adams declared that immigrants were “destroying” his city and laid the blame for the city’s decline at the feet of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and the policies of President Joe Biden (D).

Adams blames the city’s woes on the fact that Abbot has bused to New York City thousands of the several million illegal immigrants that have poured across the southern border due to Democrat-pushed policies.

The New York Post reported that last week, Adams told constituents at a town hall that he has accomplished much, but progress has stalled due to southern states routing immigrants to the city. He said:

“Go item for item on what Eric Adams ran for as a candidate and look at what we accomplished in 20 months: We turned this city around in 20 months, and then what happened? Started with a madman down in Texas who decided he wanted to bus people up to New York City.”

Adams appears to be in a no-win situation, with Democrats calling him a “black Trump” for suggesting better border controls, and Republicans declaring he should not complain about the ramifications of the policies he has endorsed.

The Daily Wire reported that Abbot has been quick to note the irony of Adams’ turn about on immigrants; this prompted the New York City mayor to call Abbott a “madman.”

Abbott seemed to take the barb in stride, saying:

“When I first heard that, I thought about Frank Sinatra singing ‘New York, New York’ when he sang ‘If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere. Well, the mayor may have made it to be mayor of New York, but he could not last a week in Texas.”

Abbott continued:

“They have so few migrants in New York compared to what we deal with every single day; it’s just outrageous he would make a comment like that.

“However, I’ve got to add this: What’s maddening is the fact that in New York and Chicago and DC and LA and other places, they put out policies self-proclaiming that they’re ‘sanctuary cities,’ and they love to promote these liberal ideologies until they have to actually live up and apply them.

“It’s clear that  policies of ‘sanctuary cities’ and letting everybody live for free simply do not work. This is a day of reckoning for all of the United States realizing that the liberal policies of open borders will not work in this country.

“The Hispanics in Texas, they don’t agree with the leftist woke agenda and progressive ideas. They firmly reject that. In fact, Hispanics in Texas do not like Biden’s open border policies. Texas will continue to get even more red because (of) the reckless liberal progressive policies.”
