Health influencer Adriana Thyssen has died. She was 49.
Her family has asked for friends and followers for “prayer and compassion.”
Her death follows other health or fitness influences who died this year: Brenda Akinyi Ochola, Larissa Borges, Joe Linder, Justyn Vicky, and Zhanna Samsonova.
The New York Post reported that Thyssen a Brazilian fitness influencer, who came to fame after losing 100 pounds in just over a year, died due to a “mystery illness.”
Thyssen’s cousin announced the death on her fitness Instagram page, Drika Store. No details about the cause of death have been shared.
“It is with deep sadness and regret that we, the Drika Blog and Drika Store team and family announce the death of our dear Drika,” the Instagram post read. “In this moment of pain, we ask for everyone’s prayer and compassion.”
Thyssen died on September 17 at her home in Uberlândia, Brasília.
The fitness influencer, who had more than 600,000 followers chronicled her weight loss journey. Thyssen told her followers she had been overweight since childhood, which led to low self-esteem and a spiral into drug addiction and depression.
Local media reported that Thyssen’s candid posts were viewed as inspirational by many.
Jam Press reported that Thyssen’s tenacity and transparency encouraged many to adopt her new healthy eating and exercise habits.
In one of her last posts, Thyssen wrote: “I have a good sense of humor, I make fun of the worst moments in my life. I am very open and frank. My sincerity, with everything that happened, made people follow me as if my life on social media was a reality show.”
