The left has been on a roll — especially since President Obama took office and Nancy Pelosi became speaker of the House. Progressives have advanced many initiatives, but the tide is changing.
Conservatives have rallied; boycotts against businesses that overtly push a perceived “woke agenda” have cost retailers billions in the last month.
News of progressive-pushed plans to target parents who express concerns about Critical Race Theory (CRT) curriculum in schools, and school administrators advancing and hiding gender transition policies from parents, have sparked a backlash wildfire.
The impact of recent calls to boycott businesses with woke agendas supports the supposition that consumers do not wish to have woke ideology thrust on them — especially not on their children.
Trans men in sports, biological males in girls’ restrooms and locker rooms, and awkwardly placed sexualized characters in Nickelodeon shows and Disney movies have parents saying, “Enough is enough.”
The New York Post reported that Bud Light’s partnership with “transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney” has cost the company more than $19 billion. Many said the controversy would blow over quickly, but last week, six weeks after the controversy began, the company reported a drop in sales of 25.7% over the same week last year.
Bud Light has failed to win back customers, even after a series of high-level apologies and a campaign to greatly discount or give away beer.
The retail giant Target is also suffering the wrath of conservatives. The national chain partnered with a known Satanic retailer and introduced LGBTQI+ products for toddlers and children to celebrate June’s “Pride Month.”
The gender transition clothing for young children, the so-called “gender inclusive swimwear, along with the “2,000 pride-themed items” supporting “LGBT ideology” prompted concerned parents to call for a boycott.
Though Target pulled some pride-themed items and repositioned some displays from the front to the back of their stores, the retailer seems to have roused a sleeping dragon. Target has lost more than $9 billion in just one week, according to the Daily Caller.
Disney is also in the crosshairs of conservatives. Disney stock plummeted more than 33% as movies and Disney+ channel programming in 2022–2023 featured content that conservative parents found objectionable.
Critical comments from Disney administrators regarding Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ conservative initiatives have fueled the feud.
Disney CEO Bob Iger’s criticism of DeSantis’ support of the Parental Rights Education Law, which prohibits teachers from exposing kindergarten–third-graders to gender ideology and sexuality content, initiated a wave of backlash resulting in Disney’s announcement that thousands of employees will soon lose their jobs due to budgetary constraints.
Kohl’s move to highlight “Pride Month” with children’s LGBTQI-themed clothing has also sparked calls for a boycott. The new movement against the retailer has led to a 5% drop in stock value in just a few days.
Nike, Adidas, the Dodgers and North Face are projected to be added to the conservative target list soon.
In 2018, author John Ringo accurately projected the current phenomenon in an interview posted on Milo Yiannopoulos’ news site Dangerous. Ringo is credited with the phrase, “get woke, go broke.”
