The nonbinary Biden administration official who faces charges of grand larceny for stealing suitcases at airports in Minnesota and Nevada was identified by a unique T-shirt design, according to a police report.
Sam Brinton, who served as the Energy Department’s deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition before being placed on leave earlier this year, allegedly stole a suitcase with a total estimated worth of $3,670 at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on July 6.
A woman who had flown from Washington, D.C., to Las Vegas on July 6 told security that a bag of hers was missing. Security footage revealed that Brinton was allegedly the perpetrator after footage showed the Biden administration official acting suspiciously before taking a bag from the luggage carousel.
“Brinton demonstrated several signs of abnormal behavior while taking the victim’s luggage which are cues suspects typically give off when committing luggage theft,” a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department detective wrote in a police report obtained by Fox News.
“Specifically, Brinton pulled the victim’s luggage from the carousel and examined the tag. Then placing it back on the carousel, looking in all directions for anyone who might be watching, or might approach. Pulling it back off the carousel and demonstrating the same behavior by looking around before walking away with it quickly.”
The report added: “Brinton only having checked one piece of luggage, which Brinton had already claimed from the carousel, had no reason to be examining and taking any other pieces of luggage.”
The investigation into the alleged theft in Las Vegas had initially yielded no results in July.
However, when Brinton faced a similar accusation in Minnesota, the detective in charge of the case realized it was the same person. Authorities were able to confirm Brinton was the correct person by confirming the official was on the same flight as the woman who reported the bag missing, as well as the rainbow-colored atomic symbol shown on Brinton’s shirt in the security footage.
The detective was able to track down an image of Brinton wearing the same shirt in a post on Instagram.
