Jonathan Turley, a notable legal analyst and Fox News contributor said on Monday that one witness in particular could lend great support to former President Donald Trump as his civil trial winds down.
On Sunday, the former president announced that he would not add further testimony in his New York civil trial, claiming his trial is unfair and that he has nothing further to add to his previous testimony.
Trump has accused New York Attorney General Letitia James and Judge Arthur Engoron of exercising gross political bias in prosecuting the case.
His statement took many by surprise as he was scheduled to testify on Monday.
Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: “I have already testified to everything & have nothing more to say other than this is a complete & total election interference (Biden campaign!) witch hunt, [so] I will not be testifying on Monday.”
In commenting on these recent developments, Turley said “Trump likely made the decision at the behest of his lawyers, who are likely happy with the record Trump created,” according to the Daily Caller.
Turley added: “What’s going to happen next is maybe some of the most interesting parts of the trial because there are still some rebuttal witnesses and one defense witness that many of us are interested in. And that defense witness is Professor Bartov, who is an NYU professor. And he gave a very strong testimony in favor of the Trump defense and said that he did not see evidence of accounting fraud in any of these documents.”
In a blow to the prosecution, last Thursday, Eli Bartov, a professor of accounting at NYU and “expert witness,” testified that though there may be some “errors in calculation” in Trump’s financial disclosures, there is ”no evidence whatsoever for any accounting fraud.”
According to the New York Post, the expert witness further undermined the prosecution’s case by stating the process of determining the “value” of real estate and branding is subjective. He said, “If somebody tells you that an evaluation is objective, this person has to have their head examined.”
