Former President Donald Trump is considering sticking tech mogul Elon Musk into a White House advisory role should he take back the White House in 2024, according to a new Wall Street Journal report.
Despite the two billionaires being known to have less than friendly relations in the past, they have reportedly had several phone calls per month since March. Based on the conversations shared, Trump is seeking powerful donors to back him whereas Musk would like to find an outlet for his desired policies, anonymous sources have told WSJ.
In previous times, the two had a more contentious relationship. It was only July 2022 when Trump dismissed Musk as “another bullshit artist” during a rally. Musk reportedly replied by posting online that Trump should “hang up his hat and sail into the sunset.”
Their relations have taken a more positive turn since.
Musk and Trump first met up in March at the home of billionaire Nelson Peltz, and have spoken to each other about various problems plaguing the country since, including illegal immigration.
Trump told CNBC at the time: “I’ve been friendly with him over the years. I helped him when I was president. I helped him. I’ve liked him.” He additionally acknowledged that he and Musk “obviously have opposing views on a minor subject called electric cars.”
Musk remarked in March that he is “banging the drum” about the nation’s open borders because “America will fall if it tries to absorb the world.”
While Musk has announced that he does not plan to donate to any White House campaign in 2024, he did reportedly tell Trump that he will hold get-togethers to discourage his wealthy and powerful allies from backing Joe Biden, according to WSJ.
Musk has told Trump that he is working alongside Peltz to create a big data-driven initiative that will make sure votes are counted legitimately. Details on that project currently remain murky, per The Guardian.
