Rap artist Aaron Carter’s body was found in the bathtub by a homeless woman he recently hired to prevent burglaries.
Carter was urged to get someone to watch his Lancaster, California, home, according to an exclusive report from TMZ. The report noted sources explained evidence of a break-in was found when he returned from a visit to his parents. The TMZ source reportedly convinced him to interview a homeless woman who attended his church.
Carter and his on-again, off-again fiancé, Melanie Martin, met with the woman, according to the report, and determined she was a good fit.
About three weeks prior to Carter’s death, he reportedly brokered a deal with the woman. He allowed her to stay at his $800,000 home in exchange for watching the home when he was away, along with some household chores.
After the housekeeper found Carter in the tub, she reportedly called 911. Investigators reportedly believe he died from drowning.
Neighbors Anthony and Amanda Cheval informed The Daily Mail they heard the 911 dispatch on their police scanner.
Mrs. Cheval is a registered nurse and ran across the street from their home carrying an automated external defibrillator.
“I heard them call out a 927D – code for a possible dead body – for Aaron Carter’s address,” Mr. Cheval said, according to the DailyMail.com report.
“I knocked on the door several times,” he said. “Finally after a few minutes a black female answered the door.”
Mr. Cheval said Carter’s housekeeper acted hysterical while foaming at both sides of her mouth. He asked her if she needed any help, according to the Mail report, and repeated his question about whether she needed help.
“Let us help you, let us try,” he reportedly said, “My wife is a registered nurse, let her help.”
The housekeeper reportedly refused to let them in the home, saying she could not allow them in before locking the door.
Los Angeles County sheriff deputies arrived soon after, and Mrs. Cheval informed deputies the woman who answered the door refused to let them in. They gained entry after the woman opened it to their repeated loud knocking.
Mr. Cheval noted, in the Mail report, the housekeeper left the property later wearing different clothes than she wore while they spoke with her. He was unsure if the bag carried away by deputies contained her earlier attire.
