Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton reiterated claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin meddled in the 2016 elections, alleging that he could do the same in the upcoming 2024 general election.
The former secretary of state and bigwig in the Democratic Party once again claimed that Putin interfered in the 2016 election, citing claims made in the Steele Dossier, funded by both the DNC and Clinton herself, which has often been disproven.
“The Russians have proved themselves to be quite adept at interfering and if he has a chance, he’ll do it again,” Clinton alleged on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki” on Sunday.
“I don’t think despite all of the deniers, there’s any doubt that he interfered in our election,” she said. “Part of the reason he worked so hard against me is because he didn’t think that he wanted me in the White House.”
Prior to the 2016 presidential election, cyber security experts uncovered a breach of Democratic National Committee emails tied to Russian-based actors, and alleged “troll farms” were created by the nation to amplify anger and discord on social media around the 2016 election.
Trump has repeatedly denied any connection to Russia, and railed against claims that his campaign collaborated with Russia before his victory.
However, Putin and Trump have spoken previously, and during Trump’s presidency were even on decent speaking terms. This was, of course, prior to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which Trump has claimed was delayed as a result of a conversation between him and Putin.
Putin did comment on Trump’s recent swath of indictments, saying that the prosecution of Trump was emblematic of the “rottenness of the American political system.”
“Putin is this authoritarian dictator who literally kills his opposition, kills journalists, poisons people who disagree with him, invades another country, [and] interferes with our election,” Clinton argued.
Clinton claimed there is a “creeping fascism” and “wannabe dictators” looming over the US political horizon, not providing any names.
Trump, meanwhile, is currently dealing with 91 charges in connection to four separate indictments. He has denied all wrongdoing and vowed not to pardon himself should he win the election.
