Boebert was asked Thursday what should be done to stop lawmakers from sexually harassing staff members following recent scandals involving members of Congress. Instead of giving a detailed policy answer, she responded with a mix of humor and criticism.
“Go to church. Find Jesus,” Boebert said. She then added, “Why is everybody so horny here?”
Her comment came as Capitol Hill deals with renewed scrutiny after allegations involving former lawmakers, including former Reps. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and Tony Gonzales (R-TX). Those cases have reignited debate over workplace culture, power imbalances, and how Congress handles misconduct complaints.
What might have been a headline about ethics reform quickly turned into a controversy centered on Boebert herself.
Critics immediately referenced her 2023 incident at a Denver performance of Beetlejuice, where security removed her and a date after complaints from audience members. Surveillance footage later showed the pair engaging in public groping during the show. Reports also stated they had been warned during intermission before being escorted out later in the performance.
Because of that incident, many social media users accused Boebert of hypocrisy for condemning inappropriate behavior in Congress while having her own highly publicized scandal involving public conduct.
