House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) issued a scathing rebuke of his Democratic counterpart, Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD), accusing him of “sucking off the government teat” and targeting Ivanka Trump’s husband, Jared Kushner.
Comer referred to Raskin as a “scrawny butt.” His criticism of the Maryland Democrat comes as leftist politicians in the Oversight Committee began launching an investigation into former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
The left’s all-out war on Kushner comes after months of House Republicans leading investigations into President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, over his shady overseas business dealings.
During an interview with the Daily Mail, Comer slammed Raskin, saying he was “ignorant” in the way that the private sector works.
“Raskin sucked off the government teat his whole life,” Comer told the outlet. “His wife works for the government. He’s worked for it forever and his dad worked for government.”
“He doesn’t know what the private sector is. So you know he can, I guess, play the ignorant card. But at the end of the day, the Biden’s don’t have a business. And I don’t think anyone in America would consider selling access to our adversaries around the world as a legitimate business,” he added.
“Raskin wouldn’t know a private legitimate business if it bit him in his scrawny butt,” the Kentucky Republican continued.
The Daily Mail pointed out that Raskin’s father served on then-President John F. Kennedy’s National Security Council.
The Maryland Democrat’s wife, Sarah Bloom Raskin, served in the Obama administration as deputy secretary of the Treasury and also held a seat on the Federal Reserve Board.
“This shockingly intemperate and juvenile personal attack is filled with lies and distortions,” Raskin said in response to Comer’s criticisms.
“Comer has been receiving a government paycheck for his own eloquent and famously effective public service for a longer period of time than I have,” he added.
Raskin has served in politics since 2007, when he was first elected to the Maryland State Senate. Comer began his political career six years earlier when he became a state representative in Kentucky.
The Kentucky Republican has been involved in the farming and cattle business, while Raskin served as a law professor before entering Congress.
Hunter Biden has been the focus of House Republicans for months who are investigating the first son over his foreign business dealings. Republicans are studying how his name has influenced such negotiations.
Kushner is a real estate investor who raked in $2 billion as part of a deal with the Saudis shortly after former President Donald Trump departed the White House.
Business dealings made within the Trump family are expected to be a top focus for Democrats if they retake control of the House in November.
Comer has indicated that he is open to asking questions about Kushner’s transactions.
“We’re going to have some questions, for Trump, and some of his family members, including Jared Kushner,” Comer previously told CNN. “We want to know exactly what the terms of that [$2 billion Saudi] loan to Kushner were.”
