Jill Biden Issues Apology to ‘Latino Community’ After ‘Latinx’ Luncheon Comments

President Biden is not the only Biden gifted in misspeak — First Lady Dr. Jill Biden demonstrated on Monday that she could give her husband a run for his money. Under pressure from the watchdogs of free speech, Biden has been compelled to apologize after mispronouncing a key Spanish word, when speaking at an event with a name some found offensive, and stating that Hispanic diversity is “as distinct as…breakfast tacos here in San Antonio.”

Biden’s remarks were made during a speech at the ”Latinx IncluXion Luncheon” and sparked a wildfire of mocking and backlash across social media channels.

Notably, Biden received a formal denouncement from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), pointedly tweeting, “We are not tacos.”

NAHJ encourages @FLOTUS & her communications team to take time to better understand the complexities of our people & communities.

We are not tacos.

The First Lady, through her press secretary, issued a thin apology via Twitter:

It did not take long for the poorly written speech to quickly veer off course. Biden mispronounced the word “bodegas,” which are popular corner markets found throughout New York City, and the speech degraded from there.

Twitter users took exception to Biden’s poor delivery and to the woke use of the term Latinx in the event name — a term the vast majority of Hispanic people do not identify with, and many find offensive.

NAHJ rebuked Biden, saying, “NAHJ encourages Dr. Biden and her speech writing team to take the time in the future to better understand the complexities of our people and our communities.”

“Our heritage as Latinos is shaped by various diasporas, cultures & food traditions. Do not reduce us to stereotypes,” the group added.
