President Joe Biden lunched with Former President Bill Clinton at the White House on Monday.
“The president is hosting former president Clinton for lunch this afternoon. He’s looking forward to catching up and discussing a range of issues,” a White House official who spoke on condition of anonymity told the Washington Post.
The publication reported that a second person with knowledge of the meal confirmed that the lunch, which comes as Biden heads into midterm campaign season, would take place.
The president faces a similar campaign season to Clinton’s 1994 first-term midterm election, according to WaPo: at the time, Republicans won eight Senate seats and 54 house seats in a “Republican revolution.”
Clinton’s visit to the White House occurs despite a slew of sexual assault allegations against him: he has been accused of raping Juanita Broaddrick, of sexually assaulting Kathleen Willey, of sexually harassing Paula Jones, and of repeatedly sexually assaulting Leslie Millwee. Clinton has denied all of these allegations.
“Two sexual predators are lunching together today at the WH, reminiscing about their younger days,” Broaddrick said on Monday, reacting to the presidential luncheon.
In addition to the #METOO allegations from various women, Clinton has come under heavy fire for his relationship with Epstein, who died in jail in 2019. His death was ruled a suicide.
Fox News reported in 2016 that flight logs show Clinton traveled aboard Epstein’s plane, the Lolita Express, at least 26 times.
Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre alleged in documents unsealed in 2020 that Clinton had visited Epstein’s private island, though she did not accuse him of committing crimes, but a Clinton spokesman told Newsweek in 2020 that the president had “never been to Little St. James Island.”
“He’d not spoken to Epstein in well over a decade,” said spokesman Angel Ureña. “Well before his terrible crimes came to light.”
The Daily Mail published photos in 2020 depicting then 56-year-old Clinton smiling and laughing as 22-year-old alleged Epstein victim Chauntae Davies rubbed his shoulders. Davies said the photos were from September 2002, and that Clinton had fallen asleep on Epstein’s plane on a humanitarian trip to Africa.
