The man who served 15 months as National Security Adviser to the 45th president reportedly announced his candidacy for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
John Bolton declared he would seriously consider becoming a 2024 presidential candidate if he does not hear Shermanesque statements from others during an interview last month on the NBC News program “Meet the Press,”
“Good Morning Britain” Thursday posted a video to its Twitter account, claiming Bolton declared his candidacy for president of the United States.
Former President Donald Trump is the only candidate to have officially announced his candidacy for the GOP 2024 presidential nomination, according to Ballotpedia. Bolton may soon add his name to that short list, based on his recent media statements.
Bolton was asked by the “Good Morning Britain” host what he would say to people who may say he lacks the experience to be president.
“I wouldn’t run as a vanity candidate,” Bolton replied. “If I didn’t think I could run seriously, then I wouldn’t get in the race.”
Earlier in the interview, the former ambassador to the U.N. was asked what a John Bolton-run America would look like.
“I would get in to win the nomination and I would do it primarily on the basis that we need a much stronger foreign policy,” responded Trump’s National Security Adviser.
“I think it’s important that it’s understood not just in Moscow, but it’s understood in places like Beijing, that unprovoked aggression against your neighbors is not something the United States and its allies will tolerate.”
In both televised interviews, the former White House official expressed his opposition to Trump, who famously tweet-fired him in 2019. Bolton later claimed he had previously offered to resign.
Bolton said on “Meet the Press” he is absolutely considering a presidential run in opposition to Trump.
“I think as a presidential candidate you can’t simply say, ‘I support the Constitution,'” Bolton explained. “You have to say, ‘I would oppose people who would undercut it.'”
“I think, when you challenge the Constitution the way Trump has, that is un-American,” Bolton added.
