John McCain’s Son Endorses Harris Citing Trump Arlington Visit ‘Violation’ Despite Father Part of Same Controversy in 1999

Jimmy McCain, the youngest son of the late Sen. John McCain, has publicly denounced President Donald Trump’s presence at a recent memorial event for fallen soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.

Speaking to CNN’s Jake Tapper, McCain revealed he has changed his political affiliation from independent to Democrat, calling Trump’s attendance at the wreath-laying ceremony “a violation.”

The situation has taken an ironic turn, however, as reports resurface of Sen. McCain’s own controversial use of Arlington National Cemetery footage in a 1999 campaign advertisement.

NEW: John McCain’s son, Jimmy, says he is so disgusted that Trump would turn Arlington into a "campaign backdrop" that he is voting for Kamala.

Ironically, in 1999, John McCain himself used Arlington National Cemetery as a "campaign backdrop."

The younger McCain’s comments have reignited discussions about the appropriate use of military cemeteries in political contexts.

“These men and women that are laying in the ground there have no choice,” McCain stated to CNN, emphasizing the sanctity of the site.

He added, “For anyone who’s done a lot of time in their uniform, they just understand that inherently — that it’s not about you there. It’s about these people who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the name of their country.”

The unearthed ad, which showcased the elder McCain walking through the cemetery’s gravestones, faced significant backlash at the time.

Trending Politics co-owner Collin Rugg highlighted this historical parallel by referencing a Los Angeles Times headline from that era: “McCain to Remove Arlington Footage From Campaign Ad.”

The Army had stated that Sen. McCain’s campaign did not request permission to film at the cemetery, clarifying that such requests would have been denied due to the ban on partisan activities at Army installations.

The ad in question featured McCain walking among the graves, accompanied by a voiceover praising his military service and commitment to remembering his fellow heroes.

Jimmy McCain’s recent statements to CNN did not directly address his father’s past controversy, as highlighted by The Post Millennial.

He focused on criticizing Trump’s lack of military experience instead.

“Many of these men and women, who served their country, chose to do something greater than themselves,” he said.

“They woke up one morning, they signed on the dotted line, they put their right hand up, and they chose to serve their country. And that’s an experience that Donald Trump has not had.”

The younger McCain’s political shift comes as a surprise to many, given his family’s long-standing Republican ties.

He explained his decision to join the Democratic Party as stemming from his concern for the country’s future, stating he “cares about making it better.”

Tapper repeated the debunked claim that Trump called veterans “suckers and losers” during his interview with Sen. McCain’s son.

McCain also revealed his intention to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming election.

This development highlights the ongoing tensions within the Republican Party and the lasting impact of the Trump presidency on traditional conservative alliances.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, the McCain family’s changing stance serves as a notable indicator of broader shifts in American politics.
