Nick Jonas is pushing back against criticism after his tweet to Elon Musk sparked outrage among some of his fans and liberal social media users.
The 32-year-old singer, who interacted with Musk on X, clarified that his post was intended as a lighthearted, drama-free comment. Despite the backlash, Jonas has no plans to delete the tweet and has moved on from the controversy, according to sources close to him.
The incident began on Tuesday when Musk responded to an article from Tesla Owners Silicon Valley, which claimed that Tesla’s profits were “up 100 percent” since President-elect Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 election.
In response to the post, Musk shared a GIF of the Jonas Brothers spinning around a small wooden coffee table, writing, “My, how the tables have turned!”
Jonas, known for his humor, tweeted Musk’s post, referencing his brothers’ cover of Busted’s song “Year 3000.” Alongside a photo of Musk, Jonas wrote, “Take us to the Year 3000.”
While the tweet was meant as a playful comment, many liberal social media users accused him of showing support for Musk, a well-known ally of Trump.
Sources close to Jonas exclusively told the Daily Mail that he did not intend to make any political statement by engaging with Musk. The insider said, “Nick is not going to waver from his post on Elon Musk, nor will he double down, and doesn’t plan on deleting it.”
The source added that Jonas believes the reaction to his tweet is “a little overboard,” and he has already moved on from the situation, emphasizing that he has more important matters to focus on.
Jonas is also reportedly unfazed by the criticism from fans who threatened to stop supporting him and his brothers ahead of their 20th-anniversary tour next year.
One Jonas fan on X wrote, “you’re disgusting.”
Another fan wrote, “20-year anniversary tour but I just cannot give my support to this.”
“Grow up,” another upset fan wrote.
One user simply wrote “cancel.”
Some users went as far as throw personal attacks at Jonas.
However, not all responses were negative. Some fans defended Jonas, expressing frustration with the outrage. One user wrote, “Oh cry me a river! He can like whoever the hell he wants. Why are liberals so full of hate!!”
“People freaking out in the comments are really showing their intolerance and hatred. Chill tf out. It’s a joke,” wrote another user.
Another commented, “Amazing how many people are legit offended by this post. No one got emotional about Elon talking to Cenk Uygur, or replying to John Fetterman. Do y’all ever consider that you act a lot like zealots in a cult?”
The controversy comes as Musk’s wealth has surged by more than $200 billion this year, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Musk, who owns a 13 percent stake in Tesla, recently topped the world’s rich list with a net worth of $455 billion.
His fortune was further boosted by a nearly 71 percent increase in Tesla stock following the U.S. election, as well as a significant insider share sale from his rocket company, SpaceX.
