On Wednesday, former Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) found a new job, having retired from his position in government.
CNN announced that Kinzinger has been hired by their network to serve as a senior political commentator.
Kinzinger was a longtime critic of former President Donald Trump and served on the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot.
Kinzinger famously gave a tearful speech during one of the committee’s early hearings, reflecting on the events of Jan. 6, saying there’s a “difference” between “a crime — even grave crimes — and a coup.”
Kinzinger’s newfound employment comes as the network undergoes tremendous change under new president Chris Licht, who has made a series of changes to programming and personnel, which have garnered headlines and immense criticism from liberals.
Among these changes came the firing or resigning of several major voices at the network, such as the removal of Brian Stelter and news that Jeffrey Toobin was resigning after discovering that he was next on the chopping block.
Licht has been attempting to have CNN’s programs and political coverage take a more sober tone and represent a wider array of viewpoints.
Kinzinger served for six terms in the House and was a veteran of the Air Force prior to that. He remains a member of the Air National Guard.
Just days ago, Kinzinger cast blame toward House Minority Leader and Speaker of the House hopeful Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for the “crazy elements” in Congress. McCarthy is locked in a close battle for speaker.
He has also suggested that he has no intention of running for president in 2024 but said that it “would be fun” to run against Trump, the first candidate to announce his intention to run.
