Kari Lake, a staunch ally of former President Donald Trump, is reportedly gearing up to run for U.S. Senate, with plans to announce her candidacy as early as next month.
Last year, Lake narrowly missed out on the Arizona governorship and disputed the results of the election, claiming that her defeat was attributable to voter fraud. Since then, she’s remained politically active, making appearances at significant events across states like Iowa and Michigan.
Her potential Senate candidacy has caused other Republican contenders to reconsider their moves. Venture capitalist and Peter Theil protege Blake Masters, who vied for a Senate position in last year’s election, seems to be reevaluating his decision to reenter the race in light of Lake’s activities.
Reports have emerged that, upon hearing of Masters’ aspirations, Trump personally reached out, expressing reservations about Masters’ chances against Lake, especially recalling Masters’ unsuccessful run against Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly. Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb has already thrown his hat into the ring.
The Senate seat in question is currently occupied by the moderate Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who surprised many by becoming an independent last year. This shift has added an element of unpredictability to the upcoming race. While Sinema’s future intentions remain unclear, Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego has already signaled his intention to compete.
Lake’s anticipated Senate bid has garnered significant attention across various media outlets, reflecting her influence in the political landscape. Her alignment with former President Donald Trump and her refusal to concede the Arizona governor’s race in 2022 have positioned her as a notable figure in the Republican Party.
