White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre fled reporters Wednesday quicker than the French abandoned the Maginot Line.
The president’s spokeswoman became frustrated under repeated questioning about President Joe Biden’s alleged involvement in business dealings with his son Hunter, according to a Daily Wire report.
The line of questioning was prompted by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) who Tuesday announced Republicans would be initiating an impeachment inquiry of Biden.
The GOP alleges that there’s evidence pointing to a culture of corruption within the Biden family that may rise to a level of “high crimes and misdemeanors.”
“How confident are you that there will be no evidence that incriminates President Biden in Hunter’s business dealings as this goes forward?” one reporter asked the press secretary.
“So, let me just give a little bit of a laydown here, because I think it’s important,” Jean-Pierre said. “Any specifics to — to the inquiry — certainly, I — I want to say this at the top, as I said to Darlene — I’m going to refer you to my colleagues at the Counsel’s Office.
Jean-Pierre noted earlier references to “Bidenomics” in her press briefing before seguing to discussion about how a Biden speech scheduled for Thursday would talk about real issues that Americans care about.
She suggested Americans are not interested in Biden’s business dealings, noting congressional Republicans have been investigating him all year.
“That’s what they’ve spent all year doing, and have turned up with no evidence — none — that he did anything wrong,” Jean-Pierre claimed. She repeated her assertion that the president did not do anything wrong.
“Is lying to the public wrong?” responded a reporter.
The press secretary countered by claiming House Republicans have acknowledged no evidence exists that Biden acted in a corrupt manner while in public office.
“Do you dispute that he lied?” pressed the journalist.
Jean-Pierre did not answer that question. Her reply was that Republican lawmakers investigating the president have debunked the “ridiculous attacks.”
She claimed the only reason McCarthy allowed the impeachment process to move forward was to negate threats from Rep. Marjorie Grenne (R-GA) to shut down government if he did not.
“So, he didn’t even put up for a vote, as you all know, because he knows that even his own members weren’t going to support this,” Jean-Pierre said of McCarthy, adding that’s why the administration calls it baseless.
“That’s why I just called it baseless, because they have said themselves that there is no evidence,” she continued. “There does not — the evidence does not exist, and this is a political stunt.”
Towards the end of the briefing, another reporter posed a question about the president’s interactions with his son’s foreign business associates, referencing a CNN poll.
“Can you explain why the president interacted with so many of his son’s foreign business associates?” asked the reporter. “More than half of voters told CNN they believe the president was involved and he lied.”
“You can’t have a response to that, Karine?”
Her response was to leave the press conference, according to the Daily Wire report.
