The ex-husband of Rep. Lauren Boebert claimed on Facebook he was responsible for bad behavior that led to her and a date being expelled from a Denver theater.
Congresswoman Boebert and her date, Quinn Gallagher, were escorted from the city-owned Buell Theater after engaging in affectionate behavior during a touring performance of the musical “Beetlejuice.”
Jayson Boebert defended his ex-wife with a mea culpa posted to his Facebook after video surfaced showing sexual contact between her and Gallagher.
The video has generated significant attention by mainstream journalists and social media users.
Boebert was married to the Colorado representative for 18 years before she filed for divorce in May, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
“Much of this is on me because the problem starts at the root,” Gallagher said. I am the root.”
He elaborated that he felt compelled to speak out due to the “attacks” on his former wife.
“Watching the attacks against Lauren, I feel the people should know the truth of our broken marriage and burden she has carried for too long.”
He emphasized that Lauren took “full responsibility” for their divorce and described her as “an exceptional wife, mother and now grandmother” and the “hardest working person I know.”
In the video, Boebert was seen taking selfies, dancing in her seat and vaping. A pregnant woman seated behind Boebert complained to her about the behavior, according to the Daily Mail report.
Boebert reportedly responded by calling her a “sad and miserable woman.” After being asked to leave, Boebert was captured on camera gesturing at the ushers.
A spokesperson for the congresswoman claimed there had been “a misunderstanding from someone sitting near her” who hadn’t noticed the “heavy fog machines and electronic cigarettes used during the play.”
The Colorado Republican initially denied vaping but later issued a statement attributing her actions to the challenges of undergoing a “public and difficult divorce.”
Her ex-husband has been open about his past unfaithfulness, according to the report.
“I was unfaithful to Lauren in so many ways,” he remarked. “I should have always brought my best just as she did.” He clarified that any suggestions she left him due to her rising political profile were “far from the truth.”
