Newly revealed images reveal the Biden administration’s ongoing development of an identification card for illegal aliens.
The ID, known as the ICE Secure Docket Card, is part of an effort to modernize documentation of illegal aliens released into the United States, according to a report from Fox News.
The Docket Card is designed to “modernize various forms of documentation provided to provisionally released noncitizens through a consistent, verifiable, secure card,” according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The card includes a photograph, biographic identifiers and “cutting-edge” security features, claims ICE. It aims to “improve current, inconsistent paper forms that often degrade rapidly in real-world use.”
The card is still in the development phase and could be expanded further depending on the outcome of the pilot program, according to the Fox report.
It is reportedly intended to facilitate check-ins and schedule reporting meetings with ICE. The agency also expressed hope the card may help field agents verify an illegal alien’s identity and to see if they are deportable.
The program has sparked apprehension among conservatives, who view it as a move that encourages illegal immigration rather than enforcing existing laws.
“ICE is a federal law enforcement agency, not the DMV,” said RJ Hauman, president of the National Immigration Center for Enforcement.
“When will Congress wake up and put an end to these open-borders, anti-enforcement programs that defy the agency’s mission and enable the crisis?”
House Oversight Committee reportedly view the new ID program as “yet another Biden Administration move encouraging illegal immigration by rewarding illegal immigrants for breaking our laws.”
“ICE should be arresting, detaining, and removing those who come here illegally, not doling out social services,” Hauman declared.
ICE has countered these concerns by stating that the ID card is not an official form of federal identification and will only be used for DHS agencies.
“Moving to a secure card will save the agency millions, free up resources, and ensure information is quickly accessible to DHS officials while reducing the agency’s FOIA backlog,” said an ICE spokesperson.
The development of the ICE Secure Docket Card comes amid an ongoing crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border, where officials have been overwhelmed by a continuing surge of illegal aliens across the southwest border.
Critics lay blame for the crisis on the Biden administration’s policies, including its moves to narrow enforcement priorities for ICE.
