Leftists Explode Over ‘Secret Meeting’ Between Trump Family Member, Top Dem

A closed-door sit-down between one of Washington’s top Democrats and a member of President Trump’s inner circle has thrown the party into turmoil just months before voters head to the polls.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries quietly met with Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and trusted outside adviser, in a gathering that only came to light after The New York Times broke the story Sunday.

The location wasn’t a government office or campaign headquarters — it was a private home in New York City, offered up by someone both men know personally.

Housing costs, immigration policy, and the squeeze of everyday living expenses topped the list of subjects the two men worked through during their time together, according to people familiar with the discussion.

Timing matters here. November’s midterms are fast approaching, and Democrats have a real shot at flipping the House. A win would put Jeffries first in line for the Speaker’s gavel.

That context has fueled speculation that Trump allies are already gaming out what a second-term White House might look like if it has to negotiate with a Democrat-controlled chamber instead of a Republican one.

This isn’t the first time the two men have crossed paths.

Jeffries and Kushner worked side by side years earlier on criminal justice reform during Trump’s first term, and insiders say they’ve kept in touch ever since, including a previous meeting last year.

Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Annie Karni framed the encounter as low-key rather than strategic.

“The private get-together was described by one of the people as a catch-up for Mr. Kushner and Mr. Jeffries,” they wrote.

Their reporting went further, tying the meeting back to that earlier legislative partnership: “The two men have stayed in touch since they worked together on a criminal justice bill midway through Mr. Trump’s first term. During the recent meeting, the pair discussed housing, immigration and the high cost of living as potential areas of common ground.”

One detail stood out beyond the small talk. Per the Times, “Mr. Kushner suggested that Mr. Jeffries should meet with the White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles, two people with knowledge of the meeting said.”

It didn’t take long for word of the meeting to spark outrage on the left. Progressive activists and vocal Trump opponents flooded social platforms once the story surfaced, many demanding answers from Jeffries directly.

Their central complaint: why would the man who could become Speaker of the House be privately building bridges with Kushner while his own party wages a public campaign against the administration he’s tied to?

The episode has also poured gasoline on a fire that’s been burning for years — tension between Jeffries and the Democratic Party’s progressive wing.

Critics used the moment to renew calls questioning his leadership, insisting the party should be sharpening its knives for oversight fights rather than networking with Trump’s circle.

A separate strain of criticism zeroed in on Kushner specifically.

He carries no official title in the current administration, critics pointed out, yet continues to wield real influence as one of Trump’s closest informal advisers.

Meanwhile, on a completely different front, the president himself has a packed travel schedule this week.

Trump departs for Houston, Texas, on Thursday, August 27, kicking off a two-day trip that mixes fundraising with official duties.

Day one belongs to politics. Trump will headline a Republican National Committee fundraiser in Houston, a stop aimed squarely at filling the party’s coffers before November.

Money raised at the event will help fuel the RNC’s broader midterm push, with a specific boost earmarked for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who’s running as the Republican nominee in a closely watched Senate contest.

People with knowledge of the trip say Texas was chosen deliberately, given the state’s deep bench of conservative donors and its track record as a fundraising powerhouse for the party.

Friday shifts the tone entirely. Trump travels to NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center for a ceremony with no political fundraising attached — just recognition for American achievement in space.

There, the president will award the Congressional Space Medal of Honor to the three astronauts behind Artemis II’s historic lunar fly-by earlier this year: Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialist Christina Koch.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman is expected to stand alongside Trump for the presentation, closing out a trip that swings from campaign trail to command module in the span of 24 hours.

Jared Kushner has no actual government job he just uses his family connections to get money from gulf autocrats and fund corrupt deals. The only way @RepJeffries should work with him is with demands for documents and subpoenas. https://t.co/5dBHVHW0CT

They should be fucking hauling Jared Kushner in front of a committee, not MEETING with him.

WTF. Did you not get the memo, Jeffries? We want fighters, not conciliators. There is no working with fascists. Fascists are to be fought.

A secret meeting was just held between Jeffries and Kushner.

Jeffries and Schumer have to go if Democrats are even going to gain any ground. They need fighters not secret meetings..
