Chicago publication “Reel Chicago” first reported the city’s Film Director Kwame Amoaku, 51, was brutally attacked and robbed.

According to a Chicago Police report, the film director was attacked twice Wednesday by the same three people on the 2100 block of West 22nd Place.

Amoaku noticed three men inside his car as he walked to it, around 7:46 a.m., according to a report from Chicago police. He reportedly confronted the perpetrators who then used various objects to brutally attack him. Police reported the assailants left in a waiting gray Dodge Caravan but soon returned to beat and rob Amoaku again before finally leaving.

He was transported by ambulance to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious-but-stable condition; he has been relocated to Rush hospital, according to a “Reel Chicago” update.

Amoaku was appointed in July 2019 as head of the city’s film office by Mayor Lori Lightfoot. He coordinates between local film projects and city agencies by helping process permits and special requests., according to a “CWB Chicago” report.

“This a.m. I was attacked, beaten and my car stolen by three kids,” he posted on Facebook, according to “Fox News”. “Thanks to all who have reached out. I’m in the ICU I’m going to be ok.” His post included a picture of him in a neck brace lying upon a hospital bed with one arm wrapped in heavy bandages.

“My dad was viciously attacked outside his home,” his daughter reportedly wrote on Facebook. “He will be unable to work or cook for himself. Please donate if you are able. You never think this would happen to your family. Until it does.”

A Meal Train fundraiser page created to help pay for meals while he is incapacitated from the beatings has already raised $4,400 — more than doubling its original goal.
