In a devastating move to the left’s “diversity, equity and inclusion” (DEI) practices, Lowes has become the latest company to modify its policies on DEI amid backlash from conservative commentator Robby Starbuck.
Starbuck, who vehemently opposes DEI, has waged war against companies that have DEI policies in place, with one of the latest being Lowes.
“Big news: I messaged @Lowes executives last week to let them know that I planned to expose their woke policies,” Starbuck said on X. “This morning I woke up to an email where they preemptively made big changes.”
As a result of Starbuck’s work, Lowes will cease participation in the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Corporate Equality Index social credit system.
The major company will also stop donating to LGBT events or other divisive organizations.
Lowes will also stop favoring employee resource groups (ERG) that center around race or s*xual orientation.
The company also hinted at more changes in the future.
“We’re now forcing multi-billion dollar organizations to change their policies without even posting just from fear they have of being the next company that we expose,” Starbuck said. “We are winning and one by one we WILL bring sanity back to corporate America.”
“So far you’ve helped me change corporate policy at Tractor Supply, John Deere, Harley Davidson, Indian Motorcycle and now Lowe’s. We are a force to be reckoned with,” he added.
Starbuck shared the email that Lowe’s sent him, in which the company detailed the changes it will make to its DEI policies.
The company said it began changing its DEI practices after the Supreme Court’s ruling on affirmative action programs at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina. In Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard, the High Court ruled that race-based affirmative action programs in college admissions violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.
“Like many other companies, in July 2023 after the Supreme Court’s decision in the Harvard/UNC cases, we began reviewing our diversity and inclusion programs to ensure they are lawful and aligned with our commitment to include everyone in the incredible opportunities here at Lowe’s and ensure that no one is excluded,” Lowe’s email read.
“We made some changes to our programs so they can more effectively further this commitment. For example, we recently decided to combine our business resource groups, from individual groups representing diverse sections of our associate population, into one umbrella organization. In addition, we are no longer participating in the Human Rights Campaign survey process,” the company said.
“What will not change, though, is our commitment to our people,” it declared. “To work in retail is to serve others, and we assist our associates by providing resources to support their development and potential.”
“As you know, over the past few years, we have been narrowing our community and philanthropic areas of focus to strategically align with our business, with a concentration in three areas: safe and affordable housing/community improvement, disaster relief and skilled trades education,” Lowe’s continued. “As a result Lowe’s will focus on events that have the biggest impact to these three areas.”
