Pop star Madonna recently responded to the White House’s social media post calling President Donald Trump “King” after his administration moved to halt New York City’s congestion pricing tolls.

The tolls, which would have charged drivers to access Manhattan, were suspended after the Trump administration intervened, citing the burden on small businesses and commuters.

The White House’s official X account posted a digital image of Trump wearing a crown, with the caption: “Long Live the King.” The post was a celebration of Trump’s decision, but it sparked backlash from his critics, who viewed it as distasteful. Madonna, who has been a vocal critic of Trump for years, shared her own response.

On Feb. 20, 2025, Madonna posted a photo of herself with a poem in which she criticized the president’s actions. The poem read, “I thought this country was built by Europeans, escaping living under the rule of a King, to establish a New World governed by the people.

Currently we have a president who calls Himself. Our King. If this is a joke, I’m not laughing.”

This isn’t the first time Madonna has spoken out against Trump. In 2017, she controversially suggested she had considered blowing up the White House after his victory over Hillary Clinton. Since then, she has continued to use her social media platforms to voice her opposition to his policies and leadership.

In January 2025, Madonna posted a photo of herself with a message lamenting the state of the U.S. government under Trump. “It’s so sad to watch our new Government slowly dismantling all the Freedoms we have been fighting for and WON over the years,” she wrote, adding a broken heart emoji and a pride flag. “Don’t give up the fight!”

Madonna’s latest comments add to the ongoing divide in the country. While conservatives continue to support Trump’s policies and leadership, many on the left, including Madonna, remain critical of his approach, according to Breitbart News.

Trump’s decision to halt the congestion pricing tolls is seen by his supporters as a victory for hard-working Americans in New York City, while opponents, including Madonna, view it as a symbol of Trump’s authoritarian tendencies.

The White House’s portrayal of Trump as “King” has also been met with mixed reactions. Trump’s supporters argue that his actions, including halting the tolls, show his commitment to the American people and his willingness to challenge the status quo.

On the other hand, critics like Madonna see this rhetoric as a dangerous move toward authoritarianism.

As the 2025 political season unfolds, the division between Trump’s supporters and his detractors shows no sign of easing. The pop star’s response to the White House’s post is just one example of the cultural and political battles playing out in the country.

Madonna’s comments reflect the ongoing tension between Hollywood and conservative America. While many in the entertainment industry continue to oppose Trump’s presidency, conservatives view his actions as a necessary counter to the left’s progressive agenda.

The cultural and political divisions in the U.S. remain sharp, with figures like Madonna using their platforms to criticize the president, while his supporters continue to rally behind him.

Whether or not these battles have any lasting impact on public opinion remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the fight over America’s direction is far from over.
