San Francisco 49ers owner and CEO Jed York was arrested in Ohio on suspicion of engaging in prostitution just weeks before the NFL season is set to begin, according to a report.
York, 46, whose legal name is John Edward York, was arrested Sunday at the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community in East Palestine, Ohio, and booked into the Columbiana County Jail.
He was released later that afternoon after posting a $5,000 bond.
York appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court on Monday, where he pleaded no contest after prosecutors amended the original engaging-in-prostitution count to a disorderly conduct charge.
The married NFL executive was also convicted on one misdemeanor count of possessing criminal tools.
A judge sentenced York to one day in jail on each count, with the sentences served concurrently. He was ordered to pay a $150 fine for the disorderly conduct conviction and another $1,000 for possessing criminal tools.
Court records indicated that York had a cellphone returned to him, while $160 seized during the case was ordered transferred to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force as part of the plea agreement.
York also completed an online course.
The NFL confirmed that league officials are aware of the arrest and intend to examine it under league rules.
“We are aware of the matter which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy,” the NFL said in a statement.
York has been married to Danielle Belluomini since 2011. The couple have two sons, Jaxon and Brixton.
He is the son of Denise DeBartolo York and John York and comes from one of the NFL’s most prominent ownership families.
His uncle, former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr., controlled the franchise during its dominant run in the 1980s and 1990s, when San Francisco won five Super Bowls.
DeBartolo stepped away from the organization following his involvement in a Louisiana gambling scandal. He pleaded guilty in 1998 to failing to report a felony after paying former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards $400,000 in connection with a riverboat gambling license, per the Daily Mail.
President Donald Trump pardoned DeBartolo in 2020.
York began working for the organization in the early 2000s before being named CEO in 2008. He became principal owner in 2024 after acquiring enough of his mother’s stake in the franchise.
During York’s tenure, San Francisco has won five NFC West titles, reached seven NFC Championship Games and advanced to three Super Bowls, although the 49ers have not won the championship since the 1994 season.
York also oversaw the construction of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, where the franchise relocated in 2014.
His arrest adds another controversy to an already difficult offseason for the 49ers.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan suffered serious injuries in a July 14 car crash, including broken ribs, a concussion, a broken nose and a broken hand.
The 49ers are preparing to begin their season against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne in September.
