Colorado congresswoman Lauren Boebert, a Republican, is under attack from political opponents still about a date with a man to see a traveling production of the musical “Beetlejuice” at a Denver theater.
Detractors initially criticized her for behavior that led to her and her date being walked out of the Buell Theater. The New York Post identified her beau as Quinn Gallagher, a co-owner of the Hooch Craft Cocktail Bar in Aspen.
The first report from the Denver theater indicated she was escorted out by law enforcement following complaints from other audience members about her bouts of loud laughter and vaping.
Video later emerged that appeared to show Gallagher fondling her breasts before her right hand landed in his lap. Critics on social media accused the advocate of family values of hypocrisy after seeing the public groping.
Criticism continues calling her a hypocrite after media reports emerged that Gallagher’s bar hosted an event featuring a drag show, something Boebert has fiercely remonstrated against.
Gallagher’s Hooch Craft Cocktail Bar hosted “a winter Wonderland Burlesque & Drag Show” in January, as revealed by an event invitation, the report noted.
The venue was chosen in January 2020 by Aspen Gay Ski Week for “an evening of cocktails, appetizers, and laughs,” a Facebook post revealed, according to the report.
Gallagher and Boebert’s relationship has been a topic of discussion after the upset at the Buell Theater, with sources suggesting they have been seeing each other for some time.
Boebert, who has faced legal challenges in the past, is recognized for her conservative views on LGBTQ issues and has been vocal about her concerns regarding children’s exposure to drag entertainment.
“Take your children to CHURCH, not drag bars,” she said in a June 2022 X post.
She expressed reservations about the use of drag queens in military recruitment campaigns, noting U.S. Navy recruitment ads featured drag queens.
“Do our military leaders understand that China and Russia see this stuff and prepare accordingly?” she asked in May. “We need a non-woke military. Better yet, an anti-woke military.”
Boebert’s faith plays a significant role in her public statements, as she mentioned in July 2020.
“I’m a Christian,” she declared. “So they may try to drive me to my knees, but that’s where I’m the strongest.”
The contrast between Boebert’s public stance and her personal associations has not gone unnoticed.
“And definitely don’t take [kids] to see Beetlejuice (especially when you are in the audience),” said Jaime Harrison, the Democratic National Committee head.
George Takei, the renowned “Star Trek” actor, also weighed in as events unfolded.
“Rep. Lauren Boebert, who urged parents to take their kids to CHURCH not DRAG SHOWS, was caught in a public performance of Beetlejuice, a children’s show, groping and getting groped by her date,” he said.
“I’ve had it with their hypocritical moralizing,” Takei continued. “They have no standing to judge or constrain ANYONE else’s private life.”
