Rep. Marjorie Greene (R-GA) responded Friday to reporters’ questions about reaction to President Joe Biden laughing at her blaming him for fentanyl deaths in 2020.
The congresswoman claimed she normally pays little attention to criticism from President Biden, according to a Daily Mail report.
“But I think what is important is, from my understanding, he’s laughing at her,” Greene reportedly said, adding, “She’s a mother, and it doesn’t matter when her children died.”
The continuing exchange between the Georgia firebrand and President Biden began with a Tuesday Twitter suggestion that Biden was responsible for fentanyl poisoning deaths of a Detroit woman’s two sons.
“Listen to this mother, who lost two children to fentanyl poisoning, tell the truth about both of her son’s murders because of the Biden administrations refusal to secure our border and stop the Cartel’s from murdering Americans everyday by Chinese fentanyl,” Greene remarked Tuesday. Her caption appeared above a video clip showing a portion of the grieving mother’s testimony before the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security.
“I lost my two sons – Caleb was age 20 and Kyler was age 18,” said Rebecca Kiessling in response to questioning by Greene.
The Detroit, Michigan, mother described how her two sons died of fentanyl poisoning. They, along with a friend, died in an Auburn Hills hotel room in July 2020, according to a Fox 2 Detroit report.
“I don’t use the term overdose, because this was not an overdose – this was murder,” Kiessling testified. “My children got fake Percocets.” She explained her sons and their friend believed they purchased Percocet.
A disclaimer has been added by the Detroit News noting President Joe Biden was not president in 2020 so should not be blamed for deaths then.
President Biden responded to Greene’s implying his policies led to the death of the Detroit woman’s children. Speaking at the Democratic Caucus Issues Conference Wednesday at Baltimore’s Hyatt Regency Hotel, he deflected blame for border policies increasing fentanyl deaths.
“Isn’t she amazing?” the president asked about Greene, to laughter. “Oof.”
“I’ve read she was very specific recently, saying that a mom — a poor mother who lost two kids to fentanyl, that — that I killed her sons,” Biden said, referring to Greene’s tweet. “Well, the interesting thing is that fentanyl they took came during the last administration.”
Biden then issued a weird, short chuckle before continuing his prepared remarks.
Kiessling demanded an apology from Biden in posts to her Facebook account.
Greene restated the mother’s testimony that the boys did not know the drugs, which they thought were Percocet pills, contained the deadly substance fentanyl.
“They were poisoned by fentanyl that came across the border from the cartels,” Greene declared. ‘”That number has exploded. It has doubled now under Joe Biden’s presidency.”
“And instead of Joe Biden making fun of me and making fun of her, Joe Biden should care about reducing that number.”
