Fox News reports that 54 Republican representatives in the House signed a letter requesting the president submit to a standard cognitive test.
Notably, the initiative was led by former White House physician Dr. Ronny Jackson who could be considered an expert witness and uniquely positioned to draw conclusions based on observations.
Jackson, now a representative for the State of Texas, was one of the 13 cosigners of a similar letter presented to the president in June of 2021, which preceded a letter sent in February of this year that 37 representatives signed. The level of concern on this point is unprecedented.
Fox notes that in addition to the latest letter being endorsed by a former White House physician, the letter was signed by notable congressional leaders, including Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Banks, Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, and Conference Vice Chair Mike Johnson.
An excerpt of the letter reads:
“We again write to you to express concern with your current cognitive state and to urge you to submit to a cognitive test immediately. We believe that, regardless of gender, age, or political party, all Presidents should follow the example set by former President Trump to document and demonstrate sound mental abilities.
“While you have largely brushed aside these assertions as partisan political attacks, the left-leaning New York Times recently published an article outlining all of this in great detail,” the letter continues. “According to The New York Times, the increased scrutiny surrounding your cognitive state has been fueled by your recent public appearances.
“Though many inside the beltway are concerned, the White House dismisses the effort as a publicity stunt.
Even the left-leaning New York Times appears to support the idea that Biden needs to go, recently referencing a poll showing that most Democrats do not want Biden to run in 2024 and noting that the president’s age is a “deep concern” for Democratic officials.
The letter to the president continues:
“The American people should have absolute confidence in their President, knowing that he or she can perform their duties as Head of State and Commander in Chief. They deserve full transparency on the mental capabilities of their highest elected leader.”
Jackson told Fox News Digital that the increase in signatures notes that more and more, people close to the situation are concerned about Biden’s mental fitness.
“I have long said there would come a time when I was not the only one discussing Joe Biden’s cognitive decline. That time is now,” he said. “This is not a political issue, it’s common sense. If Joe Biden is confident in his ability to excel at a cognitive test the way President Trump did, he can easily put his fellow Democrats’ fears to rest with this one simple test.”
