Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) appeared on Fox News’ “Hannity” to discuss topics related to green energy. During the Tuesday evening interview, Sean Hannity asked Greene to comment on the recent train derailment that released toxic chemicals and the impact of green energy policies on the environment.
Greene wasted no time faulting the Biden administration, particularly Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
Many Republicans and conservative commentators have blasted the administration’s handling of recent toxic chemical spills — charging that better chemical transport policies should have been in place and legacy media outlets did not properly report on the incidents.
The more serious criticisms pertain to the decision to execute a “controlled burn” of the chemicals, which sent plumes of toxic fumes into the air and across the Ohio River Basin.
Greene accused the administration of being “more interested in equity and inclusion” than it is in addressing “infrastructure in our crumbling nation.”
Greene went on to say that “we have real danger in our country. Pete was never qualified for the job. I believe we need to haul him in our committees and start questioning him over what’s actually happening in his department.”
“Because train derailment is happening every day, and now thousands of people, birds, and animals — they’re all sick. We don’t know the consequences of this horrible accident in East Palestine,” Greene added.
The firebrand congresswoman from Georgia saved her harshest criticism for Ocasio-Cortez, charging her with promoting policies that negatively impact the economy, are ineffective and ultimately hurt the environment she claims she wants to save.
As Greene mentioned the “thousands” of animals killed by ocean and land windmills, Hannity noted that batteries used in electric automobiles and many solar energy products depend on minerals mined in quarries marked by inhumane working conditions and are wreaking havoc on the landscape.
When Hannity asked Greene if she had talked with Ocasio-Cortez about this, Greene replied that AOC was too “chicken” to debate her and unable to defend her energy and environmental ideas.
“I actually challenged AOC to debates multiple times,” Greene said. “And she has refused to debate me. I wanted to challenge her as a successful business owner and an American taxpayer on her ideas that will completely change the way our country functions — not only with energy but our entire economy.”
Greene continued, “But AOC couldn’t do it. You want to know why? She’s chicken. She isn’t brave enough to defend those ideas because they’re not her own. They came out of a think tank, and she put her name on them.”
Greene also criticized the selective criticism coming from the left regarding energy and environmental policies. Referencing Omar, Greene said:
“We have people like Ilhan Omar. She wants to crack down on corporate greed when it comes to rails and the privately owned sections of rails, but really what we need to do is make sure that our rails are safe.”
Greene added: “Democrats passed a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, and only $5 billion went towards rail safety. This is a failure.”
The Washington Examiner noted that when Hannity asked Greene where most of the infrastructure bill’s money had gone, Greene replied that it was funneled to “Green New Deal programs, including efforts to create electric vehicle batteries that rely on fossil fuels for production and ‘make us dependent on countries like China.'”
