Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) Friday told CNN reporter Chris Wallace her husband Paul may need months to fully recover.
The host of “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace” had asked her about Paul Pelosi’s condition after being attacked at their San Francisco home in October.
Mrs. Pelosi responded during the interview streaming on HBO Max that her husband was doing OK but needed more time to completely recover. She seemed on the brink of tears as she answered Wallace’s question.
Mr. Pelosi, 82, was struck in the head with a hammer by a man whom police claim broke in to their residence searching for Mrs. Pelosi. “Where’s Nancy?” he reportedly repeated to his victim before police arrived.
Mrs. Pelosi announced her husband’s release from a San Francisco hospital in early November where he underwent surgery to repair a skull fracture.
She informed Wallace Friday her husband was strong but his recovery had to proceed one day at a time.
“I feel very sad about it because of what happened, but also more sad because the person was searching for me,” she explained to Wallace. “My dear husband, who is not even that political actually, paid the price.”
Wallace pressed Pelosi a bit, noting how she and her daughter had used the phrase “long haul” whenever he asked about Paul Pelosi’s recovery. He questioned what she meant by the phrase “long haul.”
“Anyone who’s had a head injury knows that you have to be very careful,” the former speaker of the House answered. “You have to be careful about movement. You have to careful about light. You have to be careful about sound. And it just takes a while. You get very tired, but, you know, without going so further into it, but it takes, it will take probably another three or four months, according to the doctors, for him to be really himself.”
