The Federal Bureau of Investigation has not released body camera footage and only bare-bone details concerning the fatal shooting by Utah field office agents of Craig D. Robertson.
In a statement issued by the Salt Lake City, Utah, field office, the FBI claims agents shot and killed Robertson after the Utah man pointed a .357 pistol at agents serving an arrest warrant.
Robertson was charged with three felony counts of making “interstate threats, threats against the president, and influencing, impeding, and retaliating against federal law enforcement officers by threat.”
Authorities allege the elderly man made threats against President Joe Biden and conspired online to target Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
The threats issued by the Utah man grew more specific as the date of the president’s visit grew closer, according to an Associated Press report.
The report noted Robertson threatened on social media to wear a camouflage “ghillie suit” and “dust off the M24 sniper rifle” to “welcome” the president.
Agents serving arrest and search warrants upon Roberston at his Provo, Utah, residence claim the septuagenarian frightened the Kevlar-wearing SWAT agents so badly they feared for their life, so they shot him to death.
“Robertson resisted arrest and as agents attempted to take him into custody, he pointed a .357 revolver at them,” FBI spokesperson Sandra Barker said in a statement Monday.
FBI officials have not revealed if Robertson fired his weapon at arresting agents and so far refuse to release bodycam video of their fatal encounter with him. The statement’s wording suggests he did not fire his revolver.
“He was armed with a weapon and brandished it at agents at his residence in Provo, Utah. FBI Salt Lake City Field Office SWAT operators responded to the threat, and Robertson was shot by FBI personnel.”
An FBI spokesperson claims the agency is in the process of reviewing the circumstances of the August 9 shooting death.
Robertson’s alleged threats were concerning enough to be flagged by the Secret Service, according to a report from The Daily Wire.
Additionally, Truth Social, a social media platform initiated by former President Donald Trump, reportedly informed the FBI about the threats made by Robertson on its platform.
