New York City Democrat Mayor Eric Adams had plenty to say about Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia preceding her upcoming visit in support of former president Donald Trump, who is being arraigned this week after being indicted last week by New York District Attorney and Democrat Alvin Bragg.
“While there may be some rabble-rousers thinking about coming to our city tomorrow, our message is clear and simple: Control yourselves. New York City is our home, not a playground for your misplaced anger,” the mayor said at a Monday press conference, as reported by The Western Journal.
Adamas does not appear to have informed the “rabble-rousers” of the proper placement for their anger and did not clarify for whom or what the city is a playground, but Greene would soon provide her own suggestions.
Adams, however, was not yet done. “We are the safest large city in America because we respect the rule of law in New York City,” he continued.
“And although we have no specific threats, people like Marjorie Taylor Greene, who is known to spread misinformation and hate speech, she stated she’s coming to town,” Adams said, no longer addressing misplaced anger. “While you’re in town, be on your best behavior,” he added.
Greene did not shy away from responding, and Adams’ admonishment of people in New York City not to misbehave was among the several matters she addressed.
“Delusional @NYCMayor is trying to intimidate, threaten, and stop me from using my 1st amendment rights to peacefully protest the Democrat’s unconstitutional weaponization of our justice system against our top Republican Presidential candidate, President Trump,” she tweeted in response.
But Greene was far from done. “Mayor Adams should be more concerned about NY citizens and taxpayers being murdered, raped, robbed, and carjacked than an elected Member of Congress coming to town,” Greene said. “Or should I be the one concerned that the mayor of NYC will weaponize his government or maybe his thugs like DA Alvin Bragg against me??”
Adams had just stated how “we respect the rule of law in New York City”; Greene coupled one of her responding tweets with a picture of a headline reading, “Mayor Adams wants more facilities where illegal drugs can be injected.”
“In Mayor Eric Adams City of New York, an average of 8 people overdose on drugs every single day because of his PRO drug policy,” Greene wrote. “He wants more drug use centers stocked with syringes, straws for snorting, and other drug paraphernalia to help NY’s poor drug addicts kill themselves.
“Drug overdoses account for 80 to 85% of accidental deaths in New York City. That’s a fatal overdose every 3 hours!
“And now Mayor Adams is threatening me. Unbelievable.”
The verbal sparring comes at a time when New York has made national headlines and come under fire for allowing criminals to go free without facing prosecution while charging those who defend themselves against criminals aggressively.
A “bodega” store owner who defended himself against two assailants last year was charged with murder, while the surviving assailant – who allegedly stabbed the bodega owner multiple times – remains uncharged to this day. Charges were dropped against the bodega owner only following a national outcry.
New York also made headlines over the weekend for charging a garage worker with attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm when he allegedly defended himself against a would-be thief who pulled a gun on him and shot him.
The illegal firearms possession appears to have occurred when the garage worker wrestled the gun away from the assailant who had shot him, thereby coming into possession of it.
The prosecutor calling the shots in these cases is DA Alvin Bragg.
Greene is expected to make her appearance in New York City on Tuesday.
