A viral video out of South Carolina is drawing widespread attention after a school resource officer was seen striking a high school baseball player with a taser during a postgame incident, prompting a state-level investigation and raising serious questions about the use of force.

The incident occurred on Wednesday following a game between Robert Lee Academy and Pee Dee Academy in Marion County.

Andrew Bowers, a student athlete from the visiting team, was involved in the confrontation after the game, though the events leading up to the altercation remain unclear.

Widely shared footage shows Marion County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer Eddie Page restraining Bowers from behind, with his arm wrapped around the player’s upper body and neck area.

During the encounter, Page is seen pulling a taser from his belt and appearing to swing it toward Bowers, making contact with the side of his head while attempting to control the situation.

The clip, which has garnered millions of views across social media platforms, also shows Bowers reacting to the impact and reaching toward his head after being struck.

At one point, the student is brought down to his knees as the officer maintains his hold. Witnesses can be heard reacting in the background as tensions escalate.

Authorities have confirmed that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has launched an investigation into the incident.

According to WPDE, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said the deputy involved has been reassigned pending the outcome of that investigation.

Officials noted that the student involved was not a Pee Dee Academy student but a member of the opposing team.

While some witnesses said the situation had become chaotic, with multiple people involved, others questioned whether the level of force used by the officer was appropriate under the circumstances.

The officer at the center of the incident has a lengthy law enforcement background, including decades of service with the South Carolina Highway Patrol before later joining the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and serving as a school resource officer, according to Sports Illustrated.

An attorney representing the student’s family indicated that legal action may follow.

“Law enforcement officers take an oath to protect and serve — a duty that is fundamental to public trust,” attorney Clay Hopkins said, according to Fits News. “When that duty is breached, it must be taken seriously.”

The attorney added that the family intends to pursue accountability related to the incident.

The confrontation has fueled broader debate about how school resource officers handle volatile situations involving students and whether clearer standards are needed when force is used in school-related settings.

Critics argue the video raises concerns about restraint techniques and proportional response, while others note that officers are often forced to make split-second decisions in tense and rapidly evolving environments.

As investigators work to determine exactly what led to the altercation, the viral footage continues to circulate, placing increased scrutiny on both the officer’s actions and the policies governing school safety enforcement.

What began as a routine high school baseball game has now become the focus of a high-profile investigation with potential legal and disciplinary consequences.
