A C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal” caller made remarks sure to send chills down the spines of Democrats concerned about Election results.
The 67-year-old Ohio man, who identified himself as George, informed host Greta Brawner he voted the straight Republican ticket.
“I’m an Independent but I’m leaning more towards the Republicans now because it seems like they have the plans,” the elderly Ohioan said, “and when Trump was President, we were doing a lot better, it seemed like.”
The senior citizen panned reports about an increase in the U.S. Gross Domestic Product, saying it’s obvious that increasing prices will raise the GDP.
He gave examples of how inflation is affecting his family by describing prices at his local Kroeger store. George explained that a loaf of bread now costs $3.50 per loaf for a decent brand of bread.
A bag of dog food increased $8 in one week, noted the owner of three dogs. “I can’t even afford to feed the dogs anymore,” he lamented.
Brawner asked the caller to her national TV program if he planned to vote for Republicans “all the way down the ticket” during the midterm elections.
“I’ve already voted to be honest with you, and I did,” he replied. “I had to.”
“As a Democrat, this isn’t the word ‘Democrat’ anymore — makes me sick to my stomach,” George continued. “I’m 67 years old and I’ve never seen anything like this in my life.”
Polls can provide a snapshot of a group of likely voters, but they have been wrong too many times in recent national elections for politicians to rely on them. Real Clear Politics, for example, shows Republican Senate candidate J.D. Vance with a small lead over Democrat Tim Ryan. Hearing from actual voters like those on C-SPAN may be a more reliable indicator that Republicans could do well in Ohio November 8.
