Kamala Harris has been running for president for weeks, however, she has not put out any solid policy position on her website.
Even liberal outlet the New Yorker has taken notice and issue with this tactic, suggesting Harris could be hiding her stances on key topics as part of some big master plan.
X users have started on catch on to this phenomenon, ripping Harris for her inability to tell the public what exactly she stands for.
“If you want to know where Kamala Harris stands on any policy position or key issue related to the 2024 presidential campaign, don’t go to her website to find out,” Megyn Kelly wrote on X.
The New Yorker highlighted that the presumptive Democratic nominee has adopted a cautious approach to her presidential campaign, sparking both intrigue and concern among political observers.
Since becoming the party’s standard-bearer, Harris has focused on delivering scripted speeches at rallies while largely avoiding unscripted interactions with the press.
Harris’s campaign strategy–as outlined by the New Yorker–appears to center on presenting herself as a symbol of “freedom.”
Her first ad exemplified this by aligning the concept closely with Democratic policy positions.
Critics, however, argue that her platform lacks specificity on key issues, including her evolving stances on fracking and Medicare for All.
The outlet noted that the former prosecutor’s rise in the polls has been notable, erasing much of Donald Trump’s lead in swing states.
This success comes despite–or perhaps because of–her limited engagement with reporters and her tendency to stick to prepared remarks, the New Yorker stated.
It added that the Harris campaign’s approach has drawn comparisons to a tennis “pusher;” a player who consistently returns the ball, waiting for their opponent to make a mistake.
This strategy seems designed to minimize unforced errors while hoping for missteps from the Trump-Vance ticket.
Critics argue that Harris has benefited from the unique circumstances of her nomination, bypassing the scrutiny of a primary process.
She has yet to face in-depth questioning on her record as California’s Attorney General or her role in the Biden administration.
The outlet claims that despite the lack of policy specifics, Harris has generated significant enthusiasm among Democratic voters.
It noted that the media’s handling of Harris has been notably gentle thus far, with few calls for more substantive interviews or policy explanations; as evident in her not displaying any of these explanations on her website.
This treatment contrasts sharply with the intense scrutiny faced by previous candidates like Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden.
Harris’s campaign website lacks a policy section, instead focusing on her biography and fundraising efforts.
This absence of detailed policy proposals has raised questions about her specific plans for governance.
The candidate’s recent interaction with pro-Palestinian protesters in Michigan offered a rare unscripted moment, highlighting the challenges she may face in balancing various constituencies within the Democratic coalition.
As the campaign progresses, it remains to be seen whether Harris will maintain her current strategy of limited press engagement or if she will face increased pressure to provide more detailed policy positions and engage in substantive interviews.
