A Florida gubernatorial candidate has sparked fierce backlash from adult content creators after proposing a massive 50 percent tax on OnlyFans earnings, a move he says is designed to combat what he calls a moral crisis affecting young Americans.
Republican James Fishback unveiled his controversial “Sin Tax” proposal targeting both content creators on the platform and their subscribers.
The 31-year-old political newcomer and investment company CEO outlined his plan during an interview with NXR Studios on Monday.
Fishback explained his reasoning behind the dramatic tax increase.
He stated his opposition to young women selling content online instead of pursuing traditional family roles.
The candidate also expressed concern about young men being exposed to adult content.
“I don’t want young women who could otherwise be mothers raising families, rearing children — I don’t want them to be selling their bodies to sick men online,” he said.
“And I don’t want young, impressionable men who are straight from Christ … to be told and drawn into lust, and have their entire brain rewired,” Fishback added.

The proposal has drawn immediate criticism from successful OnlyFans creators based in Florida.
Sophie Rain, a Tampa resident who claims to have earned $95 million from the platform between 2023 and 2025, called Fishback’s plan “the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.”
Rain, 21, emphasized her tax compliance and questioned the logic behind the proposal.
She noted that she has already paid millions in taxes.
The content creator is also a co-founder and member of the Bop House, a Florida residence housing multiple adult performers who reportedly generate $15 million monthly combined, according to the New York Post.
The OnlyFans star took issue with what she perceived as judgmental language from Fishback.
Rain said she was raised Christian and attended church regularly. She invoked the biblical principle of loving one’s neighbor in her criticism of the candidate.
“What he’s saying invalidates him as a Christian … he could’ve gone about it a better way than to call me a w—e and say I have a degenerate job,” Rain said.
According to Fishback’s calculations posted on social media platform X, Rain would face a $42 million tax bill under his proposed plan.
Another top OnlyFans earner criticized the proposal as inconsistent and overreaching.
Anya Lacey, who identifies as conservative and gun-owning, claims to rank in the top 0.1% of the platform’s earners.
Lacey, 19, speaking to the Post from her Jupiter home, called the plan “absolutely ridiculous.”
She pointed out what she sees as hypocrisy in singling out adult content while other industries remain untaxed.
“I think it’s absolutely ridiculous, and it’s quite rich in a state where the city, Miami, was literally built off of cocaine money. And he’s calling it a ‘Sin Tax’ right,” she said.
The content creator questioned why other activities considered sinful by some would not face similar taxation.
Lacey specifically mentioned alcohol, marijuana and strip clubs as examples.
“I don’t really understand that, since we could call alcohol a sin, marijuana, strip clubs. Unless he’s ready to put a tax on anything that could be considered a sin, I think his proposal is absolutely ludicrous,” Lacey told the Post.
