Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has come under fire this week for noting that she was “swatted“ this week.

Swatting is a newer term referring to a third party calling emergency or law enforcement personnel to respond to an urgent need, such as an active shooter or a hostage situation.

The anonymous calls are illegal and extremely disruptive, and they generally require the commitment of significant resources.

The incident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. Wednesday — Floyd  County police were called to her home in Rome, GA.

Greene tweeted Wednesday.

“Last night, I was swatted just after 1 a.m. I can’t express enough gratitude to my local law enforcement here in Rome, Floyd County.”

Critics of the conservative representative have claimed, without proof, that Greene faked the call out of a need for attention or to disparage those who support the introduction of so-called trans rights into schools.

Greene has, for the most part, brushed aside criticisms, while some have come to her aid, posting timelines noting what happened and when.

Floyd County police report a 911 call was received shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday morning and that the caller claimed a “subject was shot multiple times” at Greene’s home in Rome, Georgia.

Police arrived quickly, searched the property, found no issues and “determined [the call] to be a prank commonly known as ‘swatting,'” according to The Blaze.

Police also report receiving a second 911 call from “an individual using ‘computer-generated voice’ altering software and “stated they were upset about Greene’s political views on transgender youth rights.”

The Blaze reports the Rome Police Department Criminal Investigation Division is working with the United States Capital Police to investigate the calls.

Greene, a mother of two, noted that safety (for her family and responding personnel) was her “number one concern” after the swatting attack.

Interestingly, though police have corroborated Greene’s report and local news sites thoroughly documented the event, several notable progressive media figures doubt her story and suggest she may have staged the incident to “smear trans rights activists.”

One such person tweeted: “If you’re wondering why I don’t believe that MTG was ‘swatted’ last night, it’s because she’s actively trying to fear monger people about the FBI.”

Journalist Yashar Ali doubted the incident was linked to trans rights activists, as was suggested by the Rome County Police officials:

“Not doubting that that MTG got swatted…What I am doubting is that the person who swatted her was an actual trans rights activist and not someone trying to smear trans rights activists.”

Greene has a history of opposing medical procedures to transition children or allowing school officials to help transition children during school hours without parental permission. However, in the wake of the swatting incident, she has not commented on who was responsible or why. Greene has left that to the police and, publicly, has only commented on safety issues.

On Wednesday, Greene told “The Charlie Kirk Show” that swatting was “dangerous” and put first responders and area residents at risk.

“Not only did they put my life and my family’s life in danger, they also put the police officers’ lives in danger. So whatever this person is, they deserve to be locked up.”
