In yet another unexpected death in an apparently healthy person under 50 years old, actress Ada Ameh passed away unexpectedly on July 17 after collapsing at an event.
Her death was first reported to Western outlets by Pop Culture.
Emeka Rollas, president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, confirmed that Ameh died on Sunday at a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) hospital in Delta State.
Pop Culture reported:
“Ameh reportedly collapsed suddenly while a guest of an oil company toyshop and his family, and despite being rushed to the NNPC hospital, [she] died before they could reach the medical facility. Ameh first stepped into the spotlight while playing Anita in the 1996 film Domitilla before solidifying her star status with her comedic characters and her role in The Johnsons.”
Rollas told PUNCH news there is currently no public information regarding the cause of death.
PUNCH news reported: “The NNPC hospital, Warri, is yet to make public the autopsy report of the likely cause or causes of Adah Ameh’s sudden death.”
The outlet also noted that “the police public relations officer for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comments at the time of filing this report.”
Friends note that the actress had struggled with mental health issues following the death of her daughter in 2020.

George Deegha, Ameh’s partner, posted a touching statement on Instagram:
How my world crumbled before me, I have lost you, you were my friend, partner, soul mate,” he wrote alongside a photo of the actress. “I feel lost and alone, I do not know what to do. it is a never ending nightmare of pain for me, like a nail being drilled into my heart, aches and pull out . I know I will never get over your death, somehow I have to get through it. this grief is indescribable.”
Ameh’s friend, actress Empress Njamah also posted how the sudden passing has impacted her:
“Hello, fam? Sorry, I have not been able to receive calls and reply to messages since we all heard the sad news, I was down in health, but am out of danger now, and am taking it easy (advised by the doctors) thanks for attending my mini candle light, checking on me, we lost an amazing soul but her memories will forever remain in our hearts keep resting my sweet trouble Ada Ameh. Thank you all. Thank you all. Thank you all. I will respond to messages when am stronger, thanks to everyone.”
Ameh’s final Instagram post read:
“Happy new week fams. This trip for my friends elder sister, is just an enjoyment gallow!!! Thanks my darling sister Phil. I really enjoyed myself!! God bless my love May dreams come true in Jesus Christ name.”
Netflix expressed its condolences in a statement:
“Ada Ameh was a thorough professional who devoted her years to entertaining us. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and colleagues at this time. May she rest in power.”
