Rick Buchanan, a well-known DJ in Memphis, Tennessee, who performed under the moniker ‘Slick Rick’ (not to be confused with the pioneering rapper of the same name), was found decapitated in his home in the Berclair area on Wednesday. His brother, John Buchanan, discovered his body at around 2:30 p.m. in his home on Angel Avenue, as reported by FOX13.
“I walked in and found him, and I just called 911,” John recounted to the outlet. He described the harrowing moment he found his brother. “I thought his coat was up over his head like it was cold or something,” John said. “I ran out and then I ran back in. And, then I realized it was something worse.”
John had gone to check on his brother after receiving a call from Slick Rick’s neighbor. He noticed several unusual things, including the back door being open and Rick’s dog Lucky roaming the yard unattended. “A lot of things were weird,” John said.
“He had his keys still in his hand. His pants were pulled down to his feet and the back door was wide open, so that’s the weird stuff.”
The Memphis Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Rick’s death. Slick Rick was a prominent figure in the Memphis DJ scene for decades. His life, however, took a dramatic turn after he was shot outside a club in 2014.
According to John, Rick struggled significantly after the incident, finding it difficult to return to his normal lifestyle. He was unable to secure regular work and became reclusive.
