A tweet by Elon Musk generated speculation Dr. Anthony Fauci correspondence with Twitter will be the next “Twitter File” subject.
“My pronouns are prosecute/Fauci,” the company’s new owner remarked in a Sunday morning post to Twitter.
Musk’s disclosure of internal Twitter communications has exposed previous censorship of conservatives on the platform. Will disturbing correspondence from Dr. Fauci be the subject of the next file dump?
The first installment of correspondence released by Musk was posted by Substack writer Matt Taibbi. The internal discussions and correspondence with federal agencies and Democrats confirmed many conservative suspicions. Censorship of reports by the New York Post about Hunter Biden’s alleged influence peddling was denied by big tech in the runup to the 2020 general election.
The Twitter File’s first batch of emails reveal the conscious decision to bury the story, claiming — without evidence — it was a Russian disinformation operation.
Former Global Comms VP for Twitter, Brandon Borrman, questioned if censoring the Biden laptop story really conformed to existing policy.
Deputy General Counsel Jim Baker replied to Borrman’s question by opining the company should continue censoring it because “they may have been [hacked] and that caution is warranted.”
Many more emails and chat conversations were included in the thread that revealed other scrutiny, such as Biden campaign staff routinely asking Twitter to handle objectionable tweets or accounts. One tweet showed the Democratic National Committee reportedly told the Biden campaign to review actor James Woods’ account.
The second installment of revelations was made by Free Press founder Bari Weiss.
“A new #TwitterFiles investigation reveals that teams of Twitter employees build blacklists, prevent disfavored tweets from trending, and actively limit the visibility of entire accounts or even trending topics—all in secret, without informing users,” Weiss remarked.
She posted a total of 30 tweets that generated considerable discussion among outraged conservatives.
Part Three of the Twitter File release reverted back to Taibbi, who described the new correspondence he was revealing as: “The removal of Donald Trump.”
Over 27 tweets, Taibbi shared emails and conversations on an internal Slack message board that disclosed internal deliberations about banning a sitting head of state.
So, when Musk randomly poked the president’s chief medical adviser, conservatives expressed hope that internal Twitter conversations with, and about, Fauci would be revealed.
Fauci became the government’s face of pandemic response to the point that lawn signs sprouted like mushrooms after rainfall saying, “In Fauci We trust.”
Many critics and doubtful Americans wanted to engage in robust conversations about the pandemic and the government’s response. Recent revelations show many such voices were silenced by various means deployed by Twitter employees.
The burning question for many is whether Fauci appealed to Twitter to silence doubters and critics of the government’s pandemic response.
