An Australian apartment-dweller who has drawn attention for a dispute with her vegan neighbor left a series of notes deploring her for cooking meat in her apartment, alleging that the smell of barbeque is offensive to the vegan family living in the building.

A woman based in the Perth suburb of Burns Beach in Western Australia has received considerable attention from a contentious note allegedly left at her door by an uptight vegan neighbor. The note was written on lined paper and labeled as an “important message” on the outside.

“Hello neighbor, could you please shut your side window when cooking? My family is vegan — we eat only plant-based foods — and the smell of the meat you cook makes us feel sick and upset. We would appreciate your understanding — thanks. Sarah, Wayne, and kids,” the letter reads.

A later note escalates the entreaty from Sarah, Wayne, and kids, threatening to report Kylie for her culinary habits.

“You have taken the mickey out of me and have been downright rude. I raised my concerns of the smell of meat making my family feel sick and upset and you go and have a BBQ on Saturday night inviting lots of [people], and you knew this would affect me and my family. My friend Tina told me you took my letter to social media and it backfired on you which is ‘just deserts’ [sic]. Please no more BBQ’s and please keep that window closed when cooking otherwise I’m going to report you and go to social media too.”

Pictures of the letters were sent to Hey Perth by a user identified only by her given name. Hey Perth describes itself on Facebook as a “Perth based marketing team delivering all forms of content along with deals, memes, attractions, etc,” and its feed reveals a particular interest in food and meat-based content.

“Sent to us by Kylie from Burns Beach who said she had organised a Coronation Party many weeks ago and was not a deliberate act to fire up her neighbours,” the Facebook post notes.

The post by Hey Perth has received over one thousand reactions from Facebook users and volumes of user comments, most of them expressing solidarity with Kylie and annoyance at the demanding vegan neighbor.
