Luigi Mangione’s alleged manifesto has surfaced, providing a disturbing glimpse into the motivations behind the alleged murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The document, shared by true crime podcast Hidden True Crime, paints a harrowing picture of medical frustration and familial pain.

Mangione, a 26-year-old University of Pennsylvania graduate, reportedly executed Thompson in an act he described as “war” against the insurance company.

The alleged manifesto claims that UnitedHealthcare systematically failed his mother, Kathleen Mangione, who has battled severe neuropathy for years.

According to the document, Kathleen Mangione’s medical journey began a decade before her official diagnosis at age 41.

Her symptoms progressively worsened, starting with intermittent burning sensations and evolving into constant, debilitating pain.

The document describes her struggle to complete simple tasks, such as walking from the couch to the kitchen.

The alleged manifesto details a series of medical challenges, including initial dismissals of her condition as psychosomatic.

Multiple doctors offered conflicting diagnoses, with one suggesting a $180,000 spine surgery that was ultimately deemed unnecessary.

Mangione claimed that UnitedHealthcare’s practices consistently hindered his mother’s medical treatment, per Daily Mail.

He alleged that the insurance company employed tactics that included: limiting specialist consultations to twice a year; refusing to cover advanced imaging; prolonging prior authorization processes; constantly changing claim filing procedures and repeatedly losing or requesting additional medical documentation.

“Back then I thought there was nothing I could do,” Mangione wrote.

“The high co-pays make consistent treatment impossible, new treatments were denied as not necessary medically, the old treatments didn’t work and still put us out for thousands of dollars.”

“UnitedHealthcare limited specialist consultations to twice a year then they refused to cover advanced imaging which the specialist required for an appointment.”

He continued: “… With every delay, my anger surged with every denial I wanted to throw the doctor through the glass wall of their hospital waiting room, but it wasn’t them.”

“It wasn’t the doctors, the receptionists, administrators, pharmacists, imaging technicians or anyone we ever met. What it was it was UnitedHealthcare [sic].”

Mangione was arrested at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s on Monday after being recognized during a nationwide manhunt.

Investigators found bullets at the crime scene with words “delay,” “deny,” and “depose” – potentially referencing insurance company strategies.

The podcast producers, Lauren and Dr. John Matthias, emphasized that the document remains unverified.

Lauren Matthias told Daily Mail that the text does not match previously reported handwritten notes found in Mangione’s backpack.

“The lines don’t match those reported to have come from the handwritten manifesto found in his backpack, so if it is genuine it’s clearly another document,” Lauren shared with the outlet, adding, “We haven’t been able to verify the document.”

Mangione’s alleged manifesto concludes with a stark declaration: UnitedHealthcare “violated their contract with my mother, with me, and tens of millions of other Americans.”

“This threat to my own health, my family’s health and the health of this country’s people requires me to respond with an act of war,” he continued.
