Newly surfaced video footage captures a confrontation between Texas Republican Rep. Ronny Jackson and law enforcement.
The incident occurred at a Rodeo in Texas in July.
Jackson, a medical doctor who has served as chief medical physician to both President Obama and President Trump, was called on to assist with a medical emergency involving a 15-year-old girl.
The video captured a heated discussion between Jackson and a trooper, identified as “Trooper Young,” regarding the medical status of the victim. The discussion occurred in the presence of EMS personnel, who arrived as Jackson was providing critical emergency care.
According to the Texas Tribune, Trooper Young ordered Jackson to “step aside so EMS could respond to a medical emergency.” Dr. Jackson refused.
In the chaos of the moment and with the late-hour darkness playing a factor, Jackson did not realize EMS personnel were on the scene. Jackson assessed the girl was experiencing problems related to low blood sugar and began to put a gumball into the victim’s mouth.
According to the Daily Caller, Young disagreed with Jackson’s assessment and lunged to stop the representative.
The Texas Tribune reported Young tackled Jackson, pushing him to the ground as Jackson hurled expletives at the officers.
In an unprofessional loss of control, Jackson cursed and threatened: “I’m gonna call the governor tomorrow and I’m gonna talk to him about this s–t because this is f—-n’ ridiculous,” Jackson could be heard saying. “F—-n’ ridiculous.”
Young proceeded to handcuff the representative, pushing his face into the ground as Jackson continued to hurl expletives and urge the officer to “recalculate” his actions.
DPS bodycam footage of the incident was posted to YouTube. Audio is included at about the 22-minute mark.
A spokesperson from Jackson’s office attributed the escalation to the aggressive behavior of the officers. Eyewitness accounts confirm that Jackson’s intentions were to provide assistance and that he was not properly informed to step away from the patient.
Rep. Ronny Jackson represents Texas’ 13th district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He has a background in the Navy and has been a steadfast supporter of former President Trump.
According to a previous article from the Daily Caller, he was at the rodeo without partaking in alcohol and his actions are currently under review by the police department.
