The attack on children takes many forms. Recent headlines include stories of targeted attacks by Hamas and diabolical attempts at trafficking children across the southern border. In the last 30 days, church leaders, educators and candidates have been arrested for possession of child pornography.
Candidate Brad Benson is the latest to make headlines. On Monday, authorities arrested current deputy fire marshal and candidate for the Granbury Texas City Council for possession of child porn.
Local affiliate Fox 4 reported the Republican Party of Hood County announced the arrest — just days before the election.
Republican Party leadership issued a statement that expressed profound disappointment and condemned the alleged behavior. An excerpt from their statement reads:
“Crimes of this degree tear at the heart and soul of society, and we condemn them in the strongest terms. The Republican Party stands for conservative, family values and the protection of children. These heinous acts are antithetical to what Republicans stand for.”
The statement added: “It is time for the justice system to act and if Mr. Benson is proven guilty, the punishment needs to be swift and severe.”
The Daily Caller reported Benson’s Facebook page has not been updated since the arrest. However, many local residents have expressed their anger in response to his last post.
