Police arrested a Republican lawmaker in Oklahoma City early Thursday morning for public intoxication.
According to Fox 25 News, police arrested Rep. Dean Davis at Skinny Slims on E. Maine St. in Oklahoma City at about 2:00 a.m. When confronted, Davis exhibited slurred speech and threatened officers, saying, “You don’t know how bad you messed up. You will find out tomorrow.”
Davis has previously been in trouble with the law on this issue. The Daily Caller noted that Davis was charged with a DUI in 2019 and “sentenced in 2022 to a six-month deferred sentence.” He reportedly completed that sentence on March 3.
USA Today noted that video from the responding patrol cars shows Davis disputing his arrest with officers.
According to the Daily Mail, police “were not called to the scene” but stopped when they noticed people drinking on the Skinny Slims patio, which is prohibited by law at that time of day. Davis was among the group drinking but denied he was drunk.
Responding to the growing controversy, Davis told fellow legislators: “I dispute any wrongdoing. However, I do want to take this opportunity to apologize to this body for creating this unnecessary distraction from the important work of the House.”
Davis was booked at the Oklahoma County Detention Center and released on OR City Bond.
