Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK) has publicly addressed the family turmoil sparked by his recent endorsement of president Donald Trump.

The unexpected alliance between RFK and Trump has not only raised eyebrows but has also ignited a firestorm within the Kennedy family clan, long considered Democratic royalty.

Speaking on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream, RFK confronted the criticism head-on, acknowledging the deep-rooted Democratic ties of his family.

RFK also revealed that Trump is preparing to make a series of announcements about other prominent Democrats joining his campaign.

“My family is at the center of the Democratic Party,” RFK stated, noting that some family members are currently working for the Biden administration.

He emphasized the personal nature of the conflict, revealing that president Biden, who keeps a bust of RFK Sr. in the Oval Office, has been a long-time family friend.

Despite the familial backlash, Kennedy remained resolute in his decision.

He reflected on his upbringing, recalling an environment that encouraged passionate debate while maintaining familial bonds.

“I understand that they’re troubled by my decisions. I love my family,” RFK affirmed, adding, “I think we all need to be able to disagree with each other and still love each other.”

Fox News previously reported that the endorsement has created rifts not only among RFK’s siblings but also within his immediate family.

His wife, actress Cheryl Hines, has publicly expressed discomfort with her husband’s political maneuver, taking to social media to voice her concerns.

“I’d like to extend a sincere, deeply heartfelt thank you to every person who has worked so tirelessly and lovingly on [RFK’s] campaign,” her lengthy post started.

She then praised the team for overcoming all the “roadblocks” and “lawsuits” designed to keep RFK “off the ballots.”

“I deeply respect the decision Bobby made to run on the principle of unity,” Hines added during another part of her statement.

RFK responded by thanking his wife for her “unconditional love,” despite being “very uncomfortable” with his political decision.

“I wish this also for the country — love and unity even in the face of disagreement. We will need that in coming times,” he continued.

In a swift and pointed response to Kennedy’s endorsement, five of his siblings released a scathing public letter.

The statement, signed by Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Courtney Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy, Chris Kennedy and Rory Kennedy, accused their brother of betraying the core values of the family legacy.

“We want an America filled with hope and bound together by a shared vision of a brighter future,” the letter declared, firmly reiterating their support for Vice President Kamala Harris.

The siblings’ statement pulled no punches, describing RFK’s endorsement as “a sad ending to a sad story.”

This sentiment was echoed by Joe Kennedy III, a grandson of RFK, who shared the letter on social media with the endorsement “well said.”

Kennedy’s decision to back Trump comes after a tumultuous journey in the political arena.

Having initially challenged Biden for the Democratic nomination, RFK later pivoted to an independent run before ultimately throwing his support behind Trump.

In justifying his endorsement, RFK accused the Democratic National Committee of waging a “continued legal war” against both himself and Trump, and of orchestrating a “sham primary” that stifled serious challenges to Biden’s nomination.

As the dust settles on this political bombshell, questions remain about the long-term implications for both the Kennedy family and the broader political landscape.
