Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) campaign is facing renewed scrutiny after federal campaign finance records showed thousands of dollars in spending on hotels, transportation and travel during the second quarter of 2026.

A review of Federal Election Commission filings shows Omar’s campaign spent more than $6,000 on hotel accommodations and private transportation between April 1 and June 30.

Among the reported expenditures were approximately $2,132 at the W New York in Times Square, about $1,613 at The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood, $1,143 for transportation through Blacklane, roughly $927 at the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs and about $682 at the Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage.

Overall, the campaign reported more than $28,000 in travel expenses and more than $23,000 in food, beverage and catering costs during the three-month reporting period.

Federal campaign finance law generally permits campaigns to spend donor funds on travel, lodging and other expenses connected to campaign or official political activities, provided the expenditures comply with applicable regulations.

Fox News Digital reported that it contacted Omar’s office for comment but did not receive a response before publication.

The Republican National Committee criticized the spending, with national press secretary Natalie Baldassarre accusing Omar of hypocrisy over staying at upscale hotels while advocating progressive economic policies.

Omar, a Minnesota Democrat and member of the congressional group commonly known as “the Squad,” has frequently promoted policies aimed at addressing income inequality and expanding government social programs, per WFIN.

The campaign spending follows previous scrutiny involving other progressive lawmakers.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has also faced questions over campaign travel expenditures after reports highlighted spending on hotels and event-related expenses.

Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has likewise drawn criticism from political opponents over his personal finances while campaigning on progressive economic issues.

Omar has previously faced questions regarding her financial disclosures.

Earlier this year, she amended a disclosure form that had initially reported millions of dollars in assets connected to her and her husband, later revising the reported value to a substantially lower amount.

Her campaign has also faced prior scrutiny over payments made during the 2020 election cycle to a political consulting firm owned by her husband, Tim Mynett.

Those payments were disclosed in campaign finance filings at the time, and no findings of wrongdoing have resulted from the expenditures.

Campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission are public records and document how federal candidates spend campaign funds.

The latest filings cover activity between April 1 and June 30 and provide an itemized accounting of campaign expenditures, including travel, lodging, transportation, fundraising and operational expenses.
