Representative Madison Cawthorn, R-N.C., recently issued another remark that has party members scratching their heads to figure out its meaning.

“The time for genteel politics as usual has come to an end,” Cawthorn said Thursday. “It’s time for the rise of the new right, it’s time for Dark MAGA to truly take command. We have an enemy to defeat.”

“Fox News Sunday” host Dana Perino asked Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel what Dark MAGA is.

“I don’t know what Dark MAGA is,” McDaniel said, “it sounds like something from Star Wars, like the dark side of the force.”

McDaniel noted the representative just lost his primary to retain his House seat, saying it was a well-fought primary but some issues arose.

“We need to focus on the Democrats,” the RNC chair exclaimed, “and I would say this to every Republican: They are the ones in control, they are the ones destroying our country, and Republicans who are fighting each other constantly, that is not helping us defeat Democrats in November.”

“And that needs to be the focus.”

Former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy expressed skepticism about outrageous claims Cawthorn made, which contributed to his primary defeat. Cawthorn said he had observed his peers using cocaine and he had been invited to sex orgies by fellow Congress members.

“Who?” asked Gowdy during a broadcast of his Fox show, “Sunday Night in America.” “Give us the names. If you’re being invited to cocaine parties by colleagues, tell us who invited you.”

“Who used illicit drugs in front of you,” he continued, noting that most of the people he worked with in Congress were steady, hard-working people. He made them sound dull. He noted, for instance, that Tim Scoot’s idea of a wild time is ordering dessert.

Gowdy concluded by telling Cawthorn to either name names or admit he made it all up, which Gowdy opined was probably the case.
