“Paramore” singer Hayley Williams lashed out at her conservative-minded fans at a concert over the weekend.
In what many assess as ill-considered comments, Williams cursed those who disagreed with her liberal political views, telling her fans if they supported Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, they were dead to her.
Williams shared her comments during last Saturday’s Adjacent Music Festival in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Reportedly, Williams recently received online critique urging the music artist to be more vocal on political matters. The 34-year-old responded by lashing out at her conservative fans.
In an awkward segue, Williams commented between songs during her concert, “I’ll be happy to tell you I’m very f—ing comfortable talking politics.”
Moving immediately to alienate fans considering supporting new GOP candidate Ron DeSantis, Williams said, “And if you vote for Ron DeSantis, you’re f—ing dead to me.”
Williams raised her hands in victory as the crowd cheered and asked, “So, is that comfortable enough for anyone?” The young crowd applauded the singer.
DeSantis is widely viewed as former President Donald Trump’s chief rival for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. He is running as a staunch conservative who cares deeply about God, family, faith and country.
Fox News noted that DeSantis’s conservative initiatives “have infuriated progressives throughout the country.”
Earlier this year, Williams condemned Republican-introduced bills in Tennessee’s legislature to ban drag shows in spaces where children are present and gender-transition surgeries on minors.
In March, Williams wrote: “Drag is not a crime. Gender-affirming health care for all, including our youth, is a necessity.”
Williams also wrote: “Once again, our state has passed two regressive and unfathomably harmful bills. We stand in solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ family and local LGBTQIA+ orgs in this fight, not only for inclusion for our friends & family in the queer community but for radical acceptance and empowerment for each of them.”
